Day One: Rehearsal in session

After a great Gala Opening on Thursday night at Woollaston Estates to kick off the Adam Chamber Music Festival, it was time for those performing at the festival to roll up the sleeves and get rehearsing – metaphorically speaking of course as given the warm weather sleeves are not in high demand at present. Our resident blogger Korimako captured some day one behind the scenes action…

FRIDAY 1 FEBRUARY – from Korimako

This morning I caught a practice session at Nelson Cathedral of Mahler’s 4th Symphony, the arranged version that is.  As flautist Bridget Douglas was heard to say, “This is Mahler pared back to his very essence”.

At the bottom of the Cathedral Steps the Troubadours, four young musicians who are attending the Adam Summer School when the Festival ends, were performing in Nelson’s Trafalgar Street at lunchtime.

Later at the Nelson School of Music, while many were back rehearsing, Lenny Sakofsky, NZSO principal, was taking an informal workshop for potential percussionists…

It looks like things are off to a rocketing start! Are you in Nelson enjoying the festival? Send us your pictures and we’ll post them on our blog to share with everyone.
